Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to decide on the program right away / What if I change my mind?

Either of these are not a problem.

You will have the opportunity to speak with an Intake Team member to talk about each of the programs and their requirements, as well as your availability, to ensure you pick the right one for you.

If you happen to change your mind during the process, that is not a problem. We will reconnect about your availability and program requirements to make sure we have the best path forward.

How long does the volunteer application and screening process take?

This is dependent on a number of factors, including:

1) How long it takes for your Vulnerable Sector Screening to be completed

2) How soon we hear back from your references

3) How long it takes for you to complete your screening interview & trainings

Typically, this takes anywhere from 2-3 months at the most.

Do I need my Vulnerable Sector Screening ready before I apply?

No, you do not. However, if you happen to have one that has already been issued for another reason and it has not been issued any longer than 6 months ago, we are able to accept that.

Can I volunteer in In-School Mentoring if I am a student and will be leaving town by the end of my university/college year?

This is not a problem at all. We are well aware that many of our volunteers are students who wrap up in April and may not be in the area after that. We will inform the Mentee and school you are matched in of your volunteer timeline.

Will I be matched in programs that are close to where I live?

We will do our best to make sure any of the program you are looking at are available in your area and we will discuss where you are able to travel to, to ensure we have the best fit.
